This category rewards excellence in recipe and cookery writing by Irish chefs and food writers. It is judged by British food writer Ed Smith.

Last year’s winner was Lilly Higgins of the Irish Times and we are expecting hot competition again for this award. Past winners include Jess Murphy and Beth O’Brien.
Begley’s farms grow over 1,000 acres of Irish vegetables and salads across North Dublin and Wexford. As members of Bord Bia’s Origin Green, they have high sustainability standards, using precision agriculture to carefully manage water and inputs while minimising field waste.
They use biodegradable plastic which has removed 25 tonnes of plastic from their growing operations annually. Begleys also belong to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and have beehives in fields alongside vegetable crops. They source their organic range from Irish and overseas growers and are members of Biodiversity Ireland.

We are delighted to partner with such a great family food business that began selling fruit and vegetables in Dublin in the 1950s. It’s wonderful to see their huge success and to have their support for Irish writers and journalists working in food and drink.
Thank you Begleys and looking forward to a fantastic 2025 Irish Food Writing Awards!
